IT HAS BEEN a weekend of protest in Northern Ireland. On Saturday, thousands marched for marriage equality in Belfast.
Despite the fact that same-sex marriage is legal in The Republic of Ireland and in The UK, equal marriage rights have yet to be extended to Northern Ireland.
Although most people and political parties in Northern Ireland are in favour of same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland, any attempts to legalise it have been blocked by the DUP, the only large party in Northern Ireland that are opposed to marriage equality.
However, the protests were not only on the streets this weekend.
When Ciara Cinnamond was on stage about to collect her diploma while graduating from Queen’s University in Belfast, she unfurled a pride flag and brought it on stage with her to raise awareness of the important issue. Here’s the moment when she revealed the flag:

Ciara received lots of praise from Twitter for her actions.
She shared the reason for it on her own Twitter. She wanted to participate, even if she couldn’t make it to the streets for the march.
That is dedication.
